Switch House Building
Tate Modern

Bankside, London SE1
Opens to the public Friday 17th June 2016

The Tate’s new Switch House building, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, is opening on Friday 17th June. The new building increases the size of Tate Modern by 60% and contains over 800 works by over 300 artists, making it the most important cultural building to open in the UK since the British Library.

The new galleries include the Artist Rooms, opening with a display of late Louise Bourgeois, and the first permanent museum spaces dedicated to live performance art plus some spectacular spaces for learning. A major highlight is the Switch House’s 10th floor 360 degree viewing platform from which you can get some stunning view of London and the Thames. Bound to be big queues to get out there Instagramming!

Here are some images taken at the press preview day on Tuesday to give you an idea of what you will be able to see at the new Tate Modern from Friday. To celebrate the opening Tate Modern will stay open until 10pm every evening this weekend, 17th 18th & 19th June, with a series of special events going on.
