Clerkenwell Design Week
Next week will see the return of the always excellent Clerkenwell Design Week. Now in its 6th year, it is the UK’s leading independent design festival. Clerkenwell is the design hub of London with more creative businesses and architects than you can shake a (very well designed) stick at. Last year CDW had 32,300 attendees and over 300 exhibiting brands. For 2015 there will be some fantastic events, pop-up exhibitions and special installations taking place all across this historic area of London.
So many great design companies will be taking part in the festival, including Anglepoise, Timorous Beasties, Leica, Vitra, Jake Dyson, Deadgood.…. and tons more.
- Icon’s House of Culture will be held in a brand new venue for CDW 2015, the stunning and rarely opened Sessions House. It will house a collection of leading and culturally conscious furniture brands, interior companies, art and film pieces. Supported by architecture and design magazine Icon, The Old Sessions House will feature Icon’s cafe in addition to a line up of great talks featuring speakers Michael Young, Gam Fratesi and others.
Where? The Old Sessions House, 22 Clerkenwell Green, EC1R 0NA
When? 10am-9pm every day during CDW15
- Designworks Tiles has created a specially curated design walk of the Clerkenwell area. Tours will be led by a local historian, featuring five large scale installations which delve into little known facts about the area. From man-eating bears to a giant diamond and Shakespeare in 3D, all have been amazingly created using tiles.
Where? Tours start from Designworks Tiles showroom, 91 St John Street, Clerkenwell
When? Tours will leave at 11am, 1pm and 3pm every day of the festival
- WordPlay is an outdoor exhibition, presented by Monotype the legendary type designers, that celebrates the way type design permeates and enhances our world. Local design talent and suppliers have used wood, vinyl, mirror, metal, concrete and light to give form to six different words set in six different Monotype typefaces. Look very carefully, don’t forget to look down passageways or even at the pavement under your feet, and you might find all six at various locations around Clerkenwell, tag your best photos #WordPlay and you could win a prize!
Where? All around Clerkenwell
When? All three days of CDW15
- Additions at Clerkenwell Design Week, is where all the interior designers, retail buyers and the press will be heading to. This is the section dedicated to small design pieces and interior accessories. Taking place at the Crypt on the Green in Clerkenwell Close’s St. James Church Additions will be showing a carefully curated group of both international brands and up-and-coming talent.
Where? The Crypt on the Green, St James Church, Clerkenwell Close, EC1R 0EA

(please note this venue does not have disabled access due to parts of the Church dating back to the 17th Century and the Crypt being underground.)
