This is the sixth year of the BP Portrait Award: Next Generation programme which puts on a number of events at the National Portrait Gallery, engaging hundreds of young people aged 14-19-years-old with BP Portrait Award-winning artists and painted portraiture. This a great thing for young people to do in the summer break especially as all events (including a brilliant Private View on 4th August) are free, and all materials are provided.

Taster Sessions

No need to book, just turn up!

Summer Schools
Three-day painting workshops with BP Portrait Award-winning artists.
Monday 17th – Wednesday 19th August or Monday 24th – Wednesday 26th August, 11am – 4.30pm.
Open to 14-19-year-olds from London or the Home Counties. Read the information/application form which can be found on the NPG BP Next Generation info page here for how to apply.

Young People’s Private View at NPG
Tuesday 4th August
6.30 – 8.30pm
Open only to 14-19 year olds who RSVP in advance

The National Portrait Gallery are hosting their only after-hours social event for young people on the evening of Tuesday 4th August. The Young People’s Private View is only for 14-19-year-olds. Meet artists, hear music, listen to talks, draw, meet other young people interested in art, and see BP Portrait Award 2015 after-hours.

On the night you can view the BP Portrait Award 2015 exhibition, get tips from from BP Portrait Award-winning artists, take part in creative drawing activities, enjoy live music, enter competitions, write your own exhibition labels and meet other young people interested in art.

Bridgette Amofah (pictured above), vocalist with Rudimental and solo artist, will be giving a special performance on the night. There will also be an acoustic set by singer-songwriter Rosie Alena, and a young DJ.

Goody bags, materials, food and mocktails all provided!

Hosted by the Gallery’s Youth Forum.
Cass Art, the UK’s leading art supplies retailer, for providing free goody bags, art materials and special competition prizes at the event.

How to Book for the Private View

Entry strictly by RSVP on a first-come, first-served basis.
Email bpnextgeneration@npg.org.uk with your name, age and contact details.
ID is required on the night. Your friends are welcome to attend but must RSVP themselves.
For 14-19-year-olds only. No teachers, no parents!

Instameet
The NPG are looking for keen-eyed and creative Instagrammers aged 14-19 to help capture the activities and atmosphere on the night. Prizes available.
